Duke Ellington is one of the greatest figures in 20th-century music. His jazz is marked by exceptional elegance (including in his attire, which earned him the nickname “Duke”) and by constant artistic exploration.
Alongside his most famous masterpieces, this program revives some of his lesser-known but highly artistic works, such as Oclupaca, Smada, The Mooche, and the Sacred Concerts, which Ellington himself described as the most important thing he had ever done.
