FABRIZIO BOSSO SPIRITUAL TRIO – “Welcome Back”
On Sunday, 26 July, the ninth concert of the Varenna Festival – 7th Edition will take place in Piazza San Giorgio, Varenna, at 9:15 PM.
The new project by Fabrizio Bosso’s Spiritual Trio is entitled “Welcome Back”, featuring Alberto Marsico on organ and Alessandro Minetto on drums.
With this new musical proposal, the trio continues its reinterpretation of music linked to the Gospel and Spiritual tradition, with a more diverse repertoire and an engaging sound that has distinguished the group for over a decade.
Founded in 2011, the Spiritual Trio is now fully at ease in mastering the language of Black music, revisiting and evoking the sounds and rhythms of Spiritual music even in compositions that do not belong to the Afro-American folk tradition. Indeed, alongside some original compositions by Fabrizio Bosso and Alberto Marsico and a selection of traditional pieces, the concert repertoire also includes songs such as You Are So Beautiful by Billy Preston, made famous by Joe Cocker, and Theme from Taxi Driver by Bernard Herrmann, taken from Martin Scorsese’s cult film.
The journey proposed by the Spiritual Trio explores the many nuances of Afro-American musical culture, alternating energetic, rhythm-driven pieces capable of moving not only the spirit but also the body, with more intimate and deeply emotional compositions that delve into the deepest corners of the soul. The result is a musical narrative that makes both your feet and your heart beat.
Welcome Back highlights the perfect balance achieved by the trio, the result of the consolidated interplay between the musicians, refined through countless live performances that have contributed decisively to the artistic evolution of the group over the years. Direct interaction with the audience is the element that elevates and completes the spiritual dimension of the ensemble, creating a profound sense of empathy from the very first notes.
In this formation, the voice — an essential component of Spiritual music — is evoked through Bosso’s trumpet, which moves with freshness and agility within a repertoire that is both traditional and contemporary, extending from the roots of Black music to Soul.
