One of the most anticipated events of the summer cultural season on Lake Como, the Varenna Festival returns with a prestigious evening featuring the Italian Academy Orchestra conducted by Maestro Damiano Cerutti.
On Friday 24 July, in the enchanting setting of Piazza San Giorgio, the seventh edition of the festival will present a unique concert experience dedicated to the greatest film soundtracks. The power of live symphonic music will combine with iconic images from international cinema projected on a giant screen, creating an immersive journey through melodies that have defined generations.
The programme will celebrate some of the most beloved masterpieces of cinematic music, from the epic themes of John Williams including Star Wars, Superman, Indiana Jones, Harry Potter, Jurassic Park and E.T. to the unforgettable compositions of Ennio Morricone, with highlights such as Gabriel’s Oboe from The Mission and Jill’s Theme from Once Upon a Time in the West. The evening will also feature music from The Lord of the Rings, Apocalypse Now and the spectacular Pirates of the Caribbean suite by Klaus Badelt and Hans Zimmer.
Leading the orchestra will be Maestro Damiano Cerutti, a conductor with extensive international experience. A graduate in piano and specialised in orchestral conducting, Cerutti has collaborated with important institutions including the Donizetti Theatre in Bergamo, ASLICO, the Teatro dell’Opera di Milano and the Kitakyushu City Opera in Japan. His artistic approach combines musical precision, sensitivity and a strong theatrical vision.
Founded in 2001, the Italian Academy Orchestra is one of Italy’s most respected orchestral ensembles. Over the years, it has performed in major theatres throughout Italy and internationally, with tours across Europe, the Middle East and Asia, including a recent Chinese tour with 27 concerts in prestigious venues. The orchestra has also collaborated with the Andrea Bocelli Foundation, confirming its versatility and artistic excellence.
With its historic square, breathtaking lake views and unique atmosphere, Varenna provides the perfect setting for an evening where cinema, classical music and the beauty of Lake Como come together. The concert represents one of the highlights of the Varenna Festival, promoted by the Municipality of Varenna in collaboration with the Elysium Chorus Association, continuing its commitment to bringing high-quality cultural experiences to audiences from Italy and abroad.
