Prestigious cultural event at Villa Cipressi di Varenna with the melologist Enoch Arden, Op. 38, scheduled for Friday 31 May starting at 9pm.
Protagonists of the evening, two artists of clear fame and recognized talent: the pianist Valerio Premuroso and the actor, director and author Alessandro Castellucci, who will perform the masterpiece born from the encounter between the genius of the composer Richard Strauss and the poetic intensity of Lord Alfred Tennyson.
A work that has certainly marked the history of music and which promises to give the public infinite emotions.
Thanks to the text of the original poem, refined but at the same time with a strong Victorian romantic feel, the main character of the story Enoch Arden – a young sailor in love and shipwrecked – is counted among the most significant figures of English romantic literature. With great theatrical sensitivity, Strauss instead brought his precious contribution by introducing a sequence not present in Tennyson’s text, divided into two parts without any interruption, as if they were two acts of a drama in which the music accompanies, supports, underlines and punctuates the narrative, moving from melancholic and wintry tones to nocturnal atmospheres, to the point of evoking suggestions that recall the sea.
